Circle of Light Art Exhibition

Location: Hotel Lobby, Sole Mio Boutique Hotel & Wellness, Bangtao, Phuket

This October, Sole Mio Boutique Hotel & Wellness is pleased to present a collection of textured artworks by Sohling, a San Francisco native who has called Phuket home for the past two years.

Sohling began creating art seriously around a year ago, developing a distinctive process centred around texture. Working with gesso and modelling paste rather than traditional brushwork, she builds each surface before allowing it to dry for approximately 24 hours. A base coat is then applied, followed by colour and decorative details that complete each piece.

Storytelling has played an important role in her early works, with some pieces inspired by family and personal memories. More recently, Sohling has also explored a freer approach to creating—sometimes beginning without a story and simply allowing herself to let go, have fun and see where the process takes her.

Circle of Light (2025, Mixed Media on Canvas | 60 x 60 cm) :

Circle of Light comes from one of Sohling’s first collections, created in 2025. As one of her earlier works, the piece represents the beginning of her journey into creating art seriously and forms part of the period in which she began exploring her approach to textured artwork

Finding My Way (2026, Mixed Media on Canvas | 60 x 90 cm) :

Finding My Way reflects her progress as an artist and the experience of discovering where she wants her art to go. Created during a period of exploration, the work represents Sohling’s continuing journey to find her own way and understand the direction she would like to take as her art develops.

Letting Go (2026, Mixed Media on Canvas | 60 x 120 cm) :

Letting Go was created without a particular story behind it. Rather than beginning with a predetermined meaning, Sohling approached the work with a simple intention—to let go, have fun with the creative process and see what would happen.

New Direction (2026, Mixed Media on Canvas | 90 x 90 cm) :

New Direction reflects Sohling’s thoughts about where she wants to go next with her art. The work comes from a period of trying to find her direction while recognising that she may sometimes be holding herself back. It reflects her realisation that pursuing her dream also means allowing herself to move forward and discover where that path may lead.

About the Artist

Originally from San Francisco, Sohling has been living in Phuket for approximately two years. Her interest in art began during her high-school years, with creativity also being part of her family through her mother, who is an artist.

Around a year ago, Sohling began creating art seriously and developing her own approach to textured work using gesso and modelling paste. Her pieces range from works connected to personal stories and family memories to more intuitive creations without a predetermined narrative.

As she continues to develop her practice, Sohling’s recent works reflect a period of exploration—finding her direction, experimenting with her creative process and learning to let go and simply create.
